OpusClip Alternative for Windows: Hive Clips AI vs OpusClip
By Danish Sofi · 7 November 2026 · 7 min read

OpusClip is one of the best-known AI clipping tools. You give it a long video, it finds the moments worth posting and turns them into vertical clips with captions. It works well, and lots of creators use it.
But it isn't the right fit for everyone. Maybe you don't want to upload every raw recording to someone else's servers. Maybe you're tired of counting credits, or you'd rather pay in rupees. That's why we built Hive Clips AI, a clipping app that runs on your own Windows PC.
This is an honest comparison. We'll show where Hive is the better choice and where OpusClip still wins.
The big difference: where your video goes
OpusClip is a web app. You upload your video (or give it a link) and everything happens on OpusClip's servers. That's handy because it works in any browser, but a two-hour 4K recording can take a long time to upload on a normal home connection.
Hive works the other way round. It's a Windows app, so your video is cut, reframed, captioned and rendered on your own computer. Your video files never leave your PC. Hive only sends the transcript text to Hive Cloud so the AI can read it and pick the best moments.
That matters if you record client calls, unreleased episodes or anything you'd rather keep private.

Pricing: credits vs unlimited clips
OpusClip runs on credits. Each plan gives you a number of credits a month, and processing video uses them up. If you clip a lot of long podcasts, you can run out before the month ends.
Hive plans give you unlimited clips. What's counted is the AI that reads your transcripts to find moments: about 20 hours of video a month on Creator and about 50 hours on Pro. Re-rendering a clip in a new caption style, changing the look or exporting again doesn't touch that at all, because rendering happens on your PC. See the pricing page for current prices in rupees and dollars.
Finding the right moments
Both tools score moments and suggest clips. With Hive you can also type what you're looking for, on every plan including the free trial. For example:
- "the funniest moments"
- "hot takes about money"
- "every time the guest talks about their first job"
Hive then shows you every moment it found, with a hook score, a reason and a title. You keep the ones you like and skip the rest before anything renders, so you don't waste time on clips you'd delete anyway.
Captions and reframing
Captions are where most short videos win or lose. Hive has 25+ caption styles (karaoke, punch box, neon, cinematic and more). You can drag captions anywhere on the screen, and safe-zone guides show where TikTok, Reels and Shorts put their buttons, so nothing gets hidden. Changes show up instantly in the preview.
For podcasts and interviews, Hive's reframe finds faces, works out who is talking and moves the vertical crop to them, with smooth cuts between speakers. If you want to know what makes captions work, read our guide on captions for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
